A short drive from the Puntarenas pier brings you to a jetty.
Take a 90-minute boat ride through the heavenly archipelago, consisting of several islands, in the Gulf of Nicoya. Among them is Tortuga Island -- a sanctuary that is home to seabirds, white-sand beaches, and the flora and fauna of Costa Rica's Central Pacific region. Situated just 12 nautical miles from Puntarenas, Tortuga Island's 296 acres are maintained as a protected forest, which has been awarded the Ecological Blue Flag for its pollution-free waters. Tortuga Island's waters are a stunning clear turquoise color and are optimal for swimming.
A delicious lunch awaits you. Explore the island, enjoy the beach, relax or play beach volleyball, or swim in this beautiful place.
Notes:
Tour does not operate Saturdays and Sundays. The boat transfer to the island is approximately 90 minutes each way. A tender boat may be used to transfer from the boat to Tortuga Island; you may need to wade ashore. Bring aqua shoes or sandals that can get wet. Wear your swimsuit under your clothing; bring a towel, reef-safe/biodegradable sunscreen, light clothing to act as a full cover-up for further protection from the sun, and a hat. Swim at your own risk. Bring bottled water. Bring insect repellent. The island is remote, and its facilities are rustic.
