This adventure takes place on Costa Rica's Pacific Coast, along the Guacalillo Estuary and the Tarcoles River, near Carara National Park.
The Guacalillo Estuary is noted for its mangrove forests. In fact, four different species of mangrove are found in this area -- a group of unrelated woody plants that grow on protected tropical coasts. The mangrove is also an excellent habitat for many endemic birds, such as the mangrove cuckoo, mangrove hummingbirds, mangrove vireo, Panama flycatcher and many herons and egrets. This particular mangrove forest is one of the most important on the mid-Pacific Coast for conserving the scarlet macaw.
Enjoy a boat ride on board a comfortable, open-sided pontoon boat designed to bring you closer to nature. Crocodiles and iguanas are easily spotted. Admire the giant crocodiles in their natural habitat and keep an eye out for the several species of tropical birds in the beautiful world of the mangroves. Travel time to the estuary is approximately 30 minutes each way. Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed. Suitable for guests using a collapsible wheelchair and able to board the transportation with a companion to assist.
