The province of Limón is prized for its vibrant Caribbean culture, stunning scenery and intricate waterways. Take a pleasant stroll through the rain forest, pass a banana plantation, and cruise the Tortuguero Canals.
You will travel in air-conditioned comfort as your guide points out places of interest in Limón. This port city was originally founded as an export point sending bananas to Europe and North America.
A drive past quaint villages and fertile plantations leads you to the rain forest. On a nature walk, keep your eyes open (and camera ready) for wildlife such as the monkeys, birds and reptiles that call this paradise home.
Board an open-air covered pontoon boat for a journey along the peaceful Tortuguero Canals, also known as the Caribbean version of the Amazon. This boat ride offers one of the lushest landscapes in Costa Rica, with a rich biological diversity. The canals are a great place for bird-watching. Some of the species that you may see include green and great blue herons, egrets, belted kingfishers and jacanas.
Back at the dock, enjoy a delicious tropical fruit snack.
As you pass a banana plantation you will learn how and why this fruit plays such a major part in the country's economy.
Notes:
Wear comfortable walking shoes.
