With nine gorgeous bays that are part of a protected nature reserve, a rich cultural heritage, a vibrant food scene, and a laid-back vibe, Huatulco is one of Mexico's true gems. On this delicious journey, you will see the city's highlights and taste its bounty.
You're headed to La Crucecita -- Huatulco's charming town center. Follow your guide on a stroll through the zocalo -- the lush main square where musicians often play.
Visit the Church of the Virgin of Guadalupe to admire the ceiling or enjoy some free time to set out on your own, meeting up with your guide later at the appointed time and place.
At the Regional Handicrafts Museum -- in fact a marketplace and not a museum -- you will meet fifth-generation artisans from Teotitlán del Valle. See how they use grana cochinilla (cactus bugs) to produce brilliantly colorful thread. The thread is elemental in creating their beautiful rugs, blankets and clothing.
You'll also participate in a Mexican cooking demonstration. Taste homemade tortillas and quesadillas fresh from the oven, as well as regional products such as Oaxaca mezcal (the smoky cousin to tequila) and chocolate that rivals the best of Switzerland.
If you prefer to shop, you're in luck. La Crucecita is home to stylish boutiques that you can explore on your own. These sell a wide variety of handicrafts.
Savor lunch at Macuil Restaurant (or similar), whose chefs have created a taste of Huatulco just for you. They take their inspiration from chef Andrew Zimmerman's recipes, serving two shrimp and mahi mahi tacos with red and green peppers along with tlayuda -- a thin-crust Mexican-style pizza.
An easy walk returns you to the ship.

In the event Macuil Restaurant is not available, La Parota Restaurant will be substituted, featuring the same menu, and there will be a brief coach transfer back to the pier instead of the walk.
