Outdoor El Salvador welcomes hiking enthusiasts on this adventurous outing to experience the beauty of this actively volcanic country. Santa Ana Volcano is not for the faint of heart, but the reward for your effort is a stupendous view over the Salvadorian countryside.
You're headed to the Santa Ana Volcano, beginning with a 90-minute scenic drive through small villages and lush farmland.
Set off from the trailhead in the company of your experienced guide, hiking uphill with some stops along the way to admire the stunning views and take photos. The trail initially leads through a beautiful forest that is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna. Keep your eyes peeled for native birds. As you ascend, the landscape changes and the vegetation becomes sparser, revealing a barren, rocky terrain.
The summit sits at an elevation of 7,812 feet. Enjoy a snack at the top. From here, you'll view the awe-inspiring crater of the volcano and take in panoramic vistas of the surrounding landscape -- a once-in-a-lifetime experience that will leave you with unforgettable memories of El Salvador.
Notes:
Transfer time is 90 minutes each way. Please realistically assess your physical fitness and ability prior to booking. A high level of fitness is required as the three-hour walk includes very steep uphill hiking over an unpaved, rough, rocky trail with many steps. A steep descent returns you to the coach -- this requires balance and healthy joint (hip and knee) function. Wear sturdy hiking shoes. The temperature is likely to be hot. Shade is limited; to avoid sunburn, wear light, long clothing suitable for use as a cover-up. Bring a hat and sunglasses; wear biodegradable sunscreen. Bring bottled water. Not suitable for guests with neck, back, knee or hip conditions. Waiver must be signed and medical conditions disclosed. Not suitable for guests with mobility limitations. Santa Ana is an active volcano, and last erupted in 2005; climb at your own risk.
