Some impressive landmarks of Victoria await on this introduction to British Columbia's island-based capital.
Visit tranquil Beacon Hill Park for a photo opportunity among towering Garry oak trees.
Then, watch for the impressive Saint John the Divine and United Commons churches as you take a scenic panoramic drive along the Inner Harbour. You'll pass the majestic BC Legislature Building, the iconic Fairmont Empress Hotel, and the Royal BC Museum. Pause for photos in this bustling area that succinctly captures the beauty of Victoria.
At Christ Church Cathedral, step inside for a self-guided tour of this historic gem. It is one of Canada's largest churches. The cathedral is home to five organs, including the stunning gallery organ designed and built by Hellmuth Wolff & Associés in 2005. With 4,000 pipes across four manuals and a pedal, this magnificent instrument is the largest on Vancouver Island and one of the finest in North America.
See if you can spot the Churchill Stone — a brick laid by the late British Prime Minister, Sir Winston Churchill. Masons aware of Churchill's brick-laying skills asked him to lay a stone when he visited Victoria. It is marked with the letter C entwined with V for victory in his honor.
Notes:
Terrain includes even and uneven surfaces, inclines, and many steps. There is no elevator available. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations. Guides and drivers are not allowed to lift mobility devices for storage. Participants must be able to climb a few steps unassisted to board the transportation. On evening tours, the stop at Beacon Hill may be replaced by a stop at Songhees Park. Bring local currency or credit cards, as most vendors do not accept US dollars. Tour sequence may vary. On Canada Day (July 1) there is no photo stop in the Inner Harbour area.
