Your first stop will be Sausalito -- a quaint little town whose boutiques, art galleries, and arts-and-crafts shops stretch along the waterfront.
Next, Journey back in time to explore the infamous Alcatraz Prison known as The Rock.
Your half-day tour begins with a short walk south along the Embarcadero, the eastern waterfront and the Port of San Francisco roadway. You'll head to the Alcatraz ferry landing and board the boat to Alcatraz Island.
A National Park Ranger introduces the infamous Alcatraz Prison. Alcatraz Island became a Federal Bureau of Prisons facility in 1934, holding notable criminals such as Al Capone, Robert Franklin Stroud (the Birdman of Alcatraz) and George Machine Gun Kelly. It has also been the setting for many films such as The Rock with Sean Connery and Nicholas Cage, Escape from Alcatraz with Clint Eastwood and The Birdman of Alcatraz with Burt Lancaster. A self-guided audio tour leads you through the small cells, with an opportunity to snap a few photos and view a documentary on the history of Alcatraz.
Return by ferry and board a motorcoach to cross the Golden Gate Bridge. Stop at Vista Point for photos at the bridge's northern end for views of San Francisco Bay and the city skyline, Alcatraz, Angel and Yerba Buena islands, Berkeley, Oakland and downtown San Francisco.
Your tour concludes with a panoramic drive back to the ship, passing Fisherman's Wharf, Ghirardelli Square, and the Cannery bustling with boutiques, restaurants and tourists.
Notes:
Wear comfortable walking shoes. Alcatraz can be congested. No guarantee is offered concerning visibility or views on any particular day, as weather and atmospheric conditions vary and are beyond the tour operator's control. The tour is non-refundable unless canceled ten days prior to the call at San Francisco. The tour may be operated in reverse order.
