Your half-day tour begins with a panoramic drive by motorcoach along the Embarcadero and across the Golden Gate Bridge. This bridge is possibly the most beautiful -- and certainly the most photographed -- bridge in the world. It is often half-veiled by the city's trademark rolling fog. You'll pause at Vista Point to take photos and, weather permitting, take in sweeping views of San Francisco Bay and the city skyline, Alcatraz, Angel Island and Yerba Buena Island, Berkeley, Oakland and downtown San Francisco.
Board the ferry to Alcatraz Island -- the setting for many films, including The Rock with Sean Connery and Nicholas Cage, Escape from Alcatraz with Clint Eastwood, and The Birdman of Alcatraz with Burt Lancaster. A National Park Ranger introduces you to the history of the infamous Alcatraz prison. A self-guided audio tour leads you through the small cells once inhabited by shady characters such as Al Capone, Robert Franklin Stroud (the Birdman of Alcatraz) and George Machine Gun Kelly. Take photos and view the documentary audiovisual.
After the tour, you'll take the ferry back to Alcatraz Landing, located on the next pier to your ship.
Notes:
Wear comfortable walking shoes. The tour is non-refundable unless canceled ten days prior to the call at San Francisco.
