Pedal your way along Astoria's Riverwalk, extending the length of the scenic waterfront and studded with lively cafes, museums, breweries and other attractions. This urban-industrial cycling and walking path follows the 1898 Astoria and Columbia River Railroad along the edge of the Columbia River and is an excellent way to admire Astoria's revitalized waterfront area.
The 6.4-mile route offers a pleasant ride, with some bumpy sections of the boardwalk.
This ideal biking experience offers views of the waterfront and coastline, passing thriving businesses on one side and skirting the lovely Columbia River on the other. See the graceful Astoria-Megler Bridge, cannery docks and fishing boats. Watch for California sea lions and an array of birdlife, including bald eagles, cormorants, terns, egrets and herons that nest on the shores.
Stop at a local fish cannery and enjoy a fresh seafood tasting as you learn more about the fishing industry on the lower Columbia River.
Notes:
Minimum age is 12 years. Dress warmly in layers with a wind- and waterproof outer layer. Part of the path is on wooden piers with uneven surfaces and spaces between planks. Not suitable for inexperienced bike riders. Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed.
