Upon arriving in Schwerin, you'll embark on a 30-minute boat ride on Lake Schwerin, Germany's third-largest lake. You'll view Kaninchenwerder -- a small island in the middle of the lake -- as well as the skyline of the quaint old town of Schwerin. Schwerin Castle creates a fairytale silhouette on the shore of the lake.
A walking tour is next on your itinerary as you explore the city center of Schwerin. Because sightseeing can work up a hearty appetite, you'll stop for lunch at a local restaurant in the historic city center, followed by free time to browse and shop for souvenirs.
Board a trolley train for a 20-minute ride through the city center to Schwerin Castle. You'll pass the old market, the Town Hall and the Schelfstadt district, popular for its half-timbered houses, and the Schelf Church.
Schwerin Castle will take your breath away as your guide details its countless qualities. The palace museum now uses the former living, social and ceremonial rooms to exhibit pictures, sculptures, furniture, weapons, medals, jewelry and other objets d'art. Keep your camera ready as you witness the Sylvester Gallery, the Red Audience Room and the Floral Room, and step outside to walk between the Orangerie and lush gardens.
Next, travel to Rostock for a walking tour through this medieval town. You'll stroll through Market Square, lined with well-preserved medieval buildings boasting gabled roofs and timbered façades. Continue to the Town Hall and St Mary's Church.
Your tour concludes with a return to the pier in Warnemünde, passing the Heinkel Aircraft Memorial along the way.
