Join local experts as they seek the celestial wonder known as aurora borealis — the Northern Lights. Make the most of deep local knowledge in your hunt for this spellbinding natural phenomenon.
Set out in search of the world-famous, ethereal Northern Lights. Having analyzed the weather forecast in advance, your experienced guides will take you out into the wilderness to the spots where you’ll be most likely to find the dazzling aurora borealis on your night in Tromsø.
The optimum conditions for viewing them (away from the city) are in darkness, with minimal light pollution, although the two most important factors are solar activity and clear skies. If you’re lucky enough to see nature’s favorite light show, it may take the form of faint wisps of color or dancing, shimmering curtains of light over the boreal forests and tundra.
Venturing to different viewpoints, you’ll find that conditions can vary greatly in a small geographical area and can change quickly. Along the way, your guides will explain why the lights occur.
Pause to enjoy hot chocolate and cookies while gazing skyward.
Notes:
The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon; the chances of spotting them are high, but sightings are not guaranteed. Dress warmly in layers with a windproof and waterproof outer layer; bring a warm hat, gloves and a scarf. Wear sturdy non-skid walking shoes. Terrain includes even and uneven surfaces, snow, inclines, gravel, grass, and steps. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair, for those with mobility limitations, or for those with a medical condition exacerbated by extreme cold. Bring a flashlight. Children under the age of 3 must be secured in a child's car seat on the transportation. These are not available through the tour operator; you must bring your own from home.
