Tromsø, known as the departure point for polar explorations, is located on the island of Troms, between the continent and the island of Kvaloy.
This town is also renowned for the study of the Northern Lights. Surrounded by woods, fruit trees and flowers at this time of the year, it is quite beautiful.
Visit the Arctic University Museum, whose two scientific sections cover the natural sciences specific to the Arctic and cultural sciences. Each section has large collections expounding on more than a century of polar exploration.
Then, cross the bridge of Tromsø to reach the Arctic Cathedral -- the breathtaking Tromsdalen Church -- which you will admire from the outside.
Head up to the Finvik Plateau for a magnificent view of the city and the surrounding mountains and fjords.
Notes:
If the Tromsø Bridge is closed, the cathedral will be accessed via an alternative route that may involve a tunnel. Wear comfortable walking shoes.
