Tromsø is the capital of northern Norway, with 78,000 inhabitants. Charmingly preserved old buildings line the streets of this city that was once Norway's national capital for a grand total of just 38 days.
Drive through the city to the Tromsø Museum -- the largest museum and research institute in northern Norway, with exhibits focused on modern cultural history and Sami ethnography.
Your tour also includes a visit to the Tromsdalen Church -- the Arctic Cathedral -- on the mainland. The church has Europe's largest stained-glass window (1,500 square feet), depicting the Return of Christ.
Tromsø Island is linked to the mainland by the 3,398-foot Tromsø Bridge. You will ride the cable car up Mt Storsteinen for a beautiful view of Tromsø Island, surrounded by sea and mountains.
Notes:
Inside church visit(s) may not be possible if religious services are being held. The cable car may close at short notice due to strong winds. Expect delays at the cable car station. If the Tromsø Bridge is closed, the cathedral will be accessed via an alternative route that may involve a tunnel.
