This leisurely-paced panoramic drive introduces you to the highlights of Trondheim — one of Norway's oldest cities, founded in AD 997.
Travel by coach into the busy city center, past Market Square with its statue of the Viking King, the Archbishop's Palace, and Nidaros Cathedral. The cathedral, dating from the 12th century, is the finest and largest Gothic-style church in Scandinavia.
Trondheim's wooden buildings burned down in the late 17th century, so most of the buildings you see today date back to the subsequent reconstruction. Watch for the largest wooden building in Norway — Stiftsgaarden — used by the Royal Family when they visit Trondheim.
From the Sverresli Viewpoint above the city, take in panoramic views of the area before returning to Trondheim via one of the many bridges over the River Nid. Admire the old drawbridge and the many colorful warehouses along it. Out in the fjord, the former Munkholmen Fort occupies its own island.
Enjoy the views from Kristiansten Fortress — one of Trondheim's main landmarks, built between 1681 and 1685.
Notes:
Tour consists mainly of sightseeing from the transportation. Stops (if any) are brief, and participants can remain on the transportation. Participants must be able to climb a few steps unassisted to board the transportation. There is a photo stop at Nidaros Cathedral. Children under the age of 3 must be secured in a child's car seat on the transportation. These are not available through the tour operator; you must bring your own from home.
