Here's a glimpse of what is possibly the most personalized restaurant in Norway. You will meet the owners, Mette and Bjørn, who run the restaurant without employees. They make all of the food themselves, offering an insight into the old Norwegian way of life.
Bjørn Fjeldvær will meet you at the pier, and you'll walk with him to a restaurant simply called Visit Bjørn. The wooden house it's set in was built in 1845 and is as authentic and charming as it looks.
Seated in the living room, around drums that serve as tables, you will be invited to enjoy local beer and sample delicious homemade food. Bjørn grew up on a small farm, with fishing and local produce as the main income, and he will enlighten you with his knowledge of the foods that you will taste, along with the methods of catching and making it.
Your meal will consist of traditional dishes such as brown cheese on waffles, bacalao, local smoked salmon and trout, beer, aquavit and fresh homemade bread.
A true indulgence is the royal dessert that is a secret recipe. Bjørn will tell you all about his memorable dinner with the King of Norway.
Purchase a souvenir if you wish -- Bjørn and Mette produce a range of handicrafts, including postcards, books, ceramics and carvings.
Notes:
Tour requires walking approximately 20 minutes (each way) to Bjørn's home. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Not suitable for guests who do not eat fish; menu substitutions cannot be made.
