Your destination is Anija Manor -- a nobleman's country home dating back to 1482. Much of the manor has been rebuilt, but the cellar walls are original, with the remnants of a rare hypocaust furnace uncovered in 2012. Tallinn's medieval Old Town is one of the finest in Northern Europe. You're headed to Toompea Hill (Dome Hill), originally the seat of the ruling bishops, then of the Teutonic Order and later of the Baltic German nobility. Today, it is the site of the Parliament of Estonia, Tall Hermann Tower, the Russian Orthodox Church of St Alexander Nevsky, and the Lutheran Dome Church. Stroll through the narrow cobblestone lanes of the former nobility district past gorgeous city palaces that once belonged to noble families.
