Indulge your sense of adventure and get acquainted with the splendid beauty and sea life of the stunning Uig coastline. This sea trek excursion begins with a scenic one-hour panoramic drive across the island to Miavaig Harbour.
Listen to a safety briefing before climbing into a RIB (rigid inflatable boat) for a fun-filled, 1.5-hour ride. You'll head out along the rocky shoreline and past the sweeping, one-mile-long Riof Beach en route to Siaram and Pabbay Mor islands. The RIB skipper slows down to explore the interior of some sea caves before turning north to the natural arch at Geodha na Sgarbh.
Finally, enter Pabbay Lagoon, whose pristine beaches and aquamarine waters are reminiscent of the Caribbean, albeit one or two degrees cooler. Keep an eye out for seals, and possibly dolphins and basking sharks. The latter is the second-largest fish in the world, but there's no cause for concern, as they are docile, plankton-eating showboats -- larger than a bus and completely harmless. Many seabirds call the area home, including gannets, guillemots and razorbills.
Returning to Miavaig Harbour, relax with a dram of whisky before reboarding your coach for the hour-long drive back to the pier.
Notes:
Dress warmly in layers with a wind- and waterproof outer layer; bring gloves, a scarf and a warm hat. Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed.
