True joy can be found in an authentic Norwegian Sunday hike. Outdoor activities are a key part of life here, and weekend hiking is a beloved tradition. Dalsnuten is a favorite mountain in the Stavanger region.
Thankfully, it is perfectly OK to undertake a Sunday hike any day of the week, so today, head uphill from the parking area at Gramstad. The first section follows a gravel farm road past Gramstadtjørn and Revhodlstjødna ponds, through forests, along ancient stone fences, and past traces of early settlements and farming activities.
The final climb to the summit at 1,059 feet (323 m) is more challenging, but with the newly built cairn (stone marker) in sight, you’ll be motivated to press on. From the top, revel in the panoramic view of the deep fjord, the vast expanse of Jæren, and the North Sea stretching out in the distance. Enjoy a well-deserved snack before you retrace the route back down the mountain.
Notes:
Minimum age is 12 years. Total hiking time is around three hours. Terrain includes uneven surfaces, inclines, gravel, grass, and steps. The path is steep, narrow, rocky and muddy in places. Dress warmly in layers with a windproof and waterproof outer layer; bring a warm hat, gloves and a scarf. Bring a backpack to stow any layers you shed. It can be quite cool at the summit. Participants must be fit and in good physical condition.
