Visit London for a panoramic overview of one of the most lively and interesting cities in the world -- a city that welcomes you with red buses, great churches, imposing statues and elegant pubs. You'll head to The City -- the part of central London that is the original square mile of Old Town, where a medieval and Georgian atmosphere remains intact.
On a panoramic drive through the West End, you'll see the Westminster, Whitehall and St James sections of London. Crossing Westminster Bridge, watch for the neo-Gothic Parliament Buildings presiding over the banks of the River Thames, and the adjacent 320-foot clock tower better known as Big Ben.
View the end of Downing Street, the Cenotaph war memorial, and Horse Guards Parade. Admiralty Arch separates courtly London from the hurly-burly of Trafalgar Square and the imposing Nelson's Column, commemorating Nelson's victory over Napoleon at the Battle of Trafalgar. The Square is flanked by the National Art Gallery and the elegant St Martin in the Fields Church.
See three famous shopping streets -- Oxford Street, Regent Street, and Piccadilly with its famous statue of Eros. The green expanse of Hyde Park extends up to the triumphal Marble Arch.
You'll have an hour at Covent Garden on your own for shopping and lunch (at your own expense) before you return by coach to Southampton.
Notes:
Lunch is not included. You will have time to purchase lunch at your own expense during the tour. The drive to London is approximately 2.75 hours each way. No inside visits are included; Tour consists mainly of sightseeing from the transportation. Photo stops (traffic permitting) will include the Tower of London, St Paul's Cathedral, Westminster Abbey and Covent Garden.
