Perhaps the most beautiful island on earth, Vàgar is an awesome paradise of spine-tingling, jaw-dropping natural sites. Set out from Runavík on Eysturoy Island through a subsea tunnel boasting the only underwater roundabout in the world. Cross the island of Streymoy and drive onwards to Vágar Island.
From the village of Sørvágur, board a boat and head out through the fjord. Watch for salmon farms growing the islands’ main export.
Picturesque Bøur village lies at the north of the fjord. On its south side, Tindhólmur islet stands tall and uninhabited. Cruise past Tindhólmur and Drangarnir -- the two sea stacks between Vágar and Tindhólmur islets. Their rather practical names -- Stóri Drangur and Lítli Drangur -- translate as Large and Small Sea Stack.
You’ll pass close to Múlafossur -- one of the finest tourist attractions in the Faroe Islands. It’s a waterfall that just drops off the island and has to be seen to be believed. Note this breathtaking panorama en route toward the village on nearby Mykines Island.
Return to Runavík by road via the same subsea tunnels.
Notes:
Dress warmly in layers with a windproof and waterproof outer layer; bring a warm hat, gloves and a scarf. Restrooms are available on the boat. Tour sequence may vary.
