Tórshavn began with a Viking thing -- a parliamentary gathering. The thing was followed by the marketplace, which later became a thriving town, and today it is one of the smallest and most pleasant capital cities in the world. Your destination today, Tórshavn delightfully blends the historic and picturesque with all the features of a modern city.
From Runavík, you'll drive north through Skálafjord, passing idyllic villages and through the tunnel to the west side of Eysturoy. En route to the capital, you will take the scenic mountain road and stop at the viewpoint overlooking Tórshavn.
Stop briefly at the beautiful Nordic House Cultural Center and drive through the modern sections of the city. In the city center, set out on a short walk through Tinganes -- the Old Town area of Tórshavn.
Heading back to Runavík, you will stop briefly at a viewpoint overlooking the city.
