Enjoy this day in The Hague with a short drive from the pier. The Hague is the city where the Dutch government is located, as well as being the International City of Peace and Justice.
Enjoy a panoramic orientation tour of the city's highlights, including The Binnenhof -- the magnificent building complex that is now the seat of the Dutch parliament; Het Plein, the central square and gathering place; and the Royal Palace Noordeinde -- the working Palace of the Dutch King and Queen.
Visit Madurodam, where the history of the Netherlands comes to life… in miniature! One of the most beloved attractions in Holland, this amazing recreational park tells the history of Holland through models and replicas of buildings built on a 1:25 scale. So meticulously crafted is this miniature city that even tiny flowers, trees and fig trees (with real figs) have been built to scale. Take a close look at the clothing worn by the model people -- their outfits change with the seasons.
The Mauritshuis was once a private home but is now an art museum. Admire works by Dutch and Flemish artists, including Johannes Vermeer's world-famous Girl with a Pearl Earring. The collection was started in the 1800s and now consists of more than 800 pieces.
End your day with free time in and around the museum, where you can stroll through the city, grab some lunch, or browse the shops before meeting up with your guide and returning to Rotterdam.
Notes:
Wear comfortable walking shoes. Many of the surfaces in the Hague are cobblestones. Restrooms are available in the Mauritshuis. Use of public restroom facilities costs 50 cents - €1, cash only. Lunch is not included. You will have time to purchase lunch at your own expense during the tour.
