Just 30 miles from Riga is the peaceful nature sanctuary of Kemeri National Park, special for its great bio-diversity, mineral-rich waters and therapeutic mud. It also stands out with a wide world of wetlands: raised bogs, fens, and transitional bogs.
Today you are invited to walk in the largest bog habitat of the National Park – the Great Kemeri Bog, formed 8,000 years ago and covering more than 12,000 acres. It is home to many bird species -- black storks, sea eagles, small eagles and corncrakes, white-backed woodpeckers and grey woodpeckers -- and to many rare plant species. An expert naturalist guide leads you on unmarked trails into a world of moss, small pine trees, deep pools, tiny dark lakes, and the scent of wild rosemary.
Notes:
Dress in layers with a wind- and waterproof outer layer. Wear sturdy non-skid walking shoes. Tour operates rain or shine but may be canceled by the operator in the event of extremely bad weather or unsuitable conditions. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations. Participants must be fit and able to walk a long distance at a moderate pace. Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed.
