When you see Riga's sky-high medieval church spires to its narrow cobblestone streets, you may think that you've stumbled upon a tiny fairytale kingdom full of gargoyles and gingerbread. Indeed, it is the self-proclaimed envy of the Baltic.
Board a motorcoach and travel past elegant manors and residential homes before stopping at the Opera House. Leave the coach for a walking tour of the Old Town. As you stroll the medieval streets once walked by the Crusaders, you will marvel at the city's rich architectural heritage. Gothic, Baroque and Renaissance buildings co-exist harmoniously with many modern structures.
From here, you'll walk to the impressive Dome Cathedral. Originally established in 1211, the cathedral has been built and rebuilt over the centuries, resulting in a Romanesque design, a Baroque roof, and a Gothic spire -- an eclectic exterior.
Watch for Riga Castle and, as you return to the pier, your coach will cross the river for a wonderful panoramic view of the Old Town -- an idyllic end to your outing.
Notes:
Tour requires walking a half-mile at a time; however, participants can stay on the coach at any time. Terrain includes even and uneven surfaces, cobblestones, inclines, and steps. Use of an audio headset (included) will enhance your tour experience.
