From Riga's sky-reaching spires of medieval churches to its narrow cobblestone streets, you may think that you've stumbled upon a tiny fairytale kingdom. But Riga is more than an 800-year-old city full of gargoyles and gingerbread -- it is the self-proclaimed envy of the Baltic region.
Board your motorcoach and travel past by elegant manors and residential homes before stopping at the Opera House.
Leave the coach for a walking tour of the Old Town. As you stroll the medieval streets once walked by the Crusaders, you will marvel at the city's rich architectural heritage. Gothic, Baroque and Renaissance buildings co-exist harmoniously with many modern structures.
From here, you'll walk to the impressive Dome Cathedral. Originally established in 1211, the cathedral has been built and rebuilt over the centuries resulting in a Romanesque design, a Baroque roof, and a Gothic spire -- all very eclectic.
Watch for Riga Castle and, as you return to the pier, your coach will cross the river for a wonderful panoramic view of the Old Town -- an idyllic end to your tour.
Notes:
Participants should be able to walk a half-mile at a time. Guests can stay on the bus at any time. There are cobblestones in Riga's Old Town. Use of an audio headset (included) will enhance your tour experience.
