On this accessible Reykjavik shore excursion, experience the highlights of the Golden Circle -- Thingvellir National Park, the famous Geysir geothermal area, Gullfoss Waterfall, and a volcanic crater.
Cross the Mosfellsheidi Heath to beautiful Thingvellir National Park -- a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a primary site of Iceland's geological and historical heritage. Walk/roll through a massive geological fault to the place where Europe's oldest national legislative assembly, the Icelandic Althing, was established in AD 930. Astonishingly, it convened here in grandiose surroundings every summer for nearly eight centuries.
Nearby is the truly fascinating Geysir geothermal area, with its many hot springs. The most active geyser, Stokkur, spouts every few minutes and is riveting to watch.
Lunch is not included. You will have time to purchase lunch at your own expense at an accessible restaurant next to the geyser.
Your tour continues over the Lyngdalsheidi Heath into the fertile farmlands of the south to visit perhaps Iceland's most beautiful waterfall -- Gullfoss. From the accessible viewing platform, this iconic waterfall will take your breath away.
En route back to Reykjavík, pause at Iceland's oldest volcanic crater -- Kerid -- about 3,000 years old. It offers a picture-perfect setting with its blue-green water and stark black and deep red slopes.
Notes:
Dress warmly in layers with a windproof and waterproof outer layer; bring a warm hat, gloves and a scarf. This tour is designed to be accessible for all guests, including those using a wheelchair (the tour operator suggests you bring a companion to assist, as guides are not allowed to push wheelchairs). The tour route avoids stairs; however, the nature of access may differ from the standards you are familiar with at home. Accessible bathrooms with wide doors are available along the tour route. An accessible vehicle with a wheelchair lift or ramp is used for transportation. The number of accessible vehicles available is extremely limited; make your accessible shore excursion reservations as far in advance as possible. Maximum weight inside the vehicle including guests and equipment is 500 lbs. Max height inside vehicle: 170 cm (67 inch).
This tour option is designed for guests traveling with individuals seeking designated accessible tours or for those who wish to book an accessible tour without requiring specific accommodations, such as a wheelchair anchor. If you require a reservation for a designated accessible space, please select the version of this tour that does not include 'Companion' in the title. This ensures that all guests who need accessibility accommodations have access to the necessary resources and allows us to coordinate effectively with our vendors.
