You're almost a naturalized Icelander when you complete the Skjól ritual -- a multi-strata geothermal bathing experience that sequentially incorporates heat, cold, warm, drizzle, softness, steam and hydration for an invigorating and sensory experience from start to finish.
Begin with laug -- a relaxing soak in the hot geothermal waters of the Sky Lagoon. Take in views of the North Atlantic Ocean and the surrounding beauty.
Next comes kuldi -- cold therapy that invites you to feel the bracing Icelandic air or, for the brave, a dip in the cold plunge, designed to boost immunity and tighten skin.
Following this invigorating cool-down is ylur (warmth), where the sauna's heat detoxifies by opening pores and cleansing the skin. Enjoy the breathtaking view through Iceland's largest single-pane window as the warmth works its magic.
Afterward, step into súld (drizzle), a cold fog-mist space that balances the heat with a refreshing and stimulating sensation for both body and soul.
The experience continues with mýkt (softness) -- the application of the Sky Body Scrub, which exfoliates and softens your skin, leaving it glowing and smooth.
To enhance this, you'll encounter gufa (steam) in the steam room, where moist warmth helps your skin absorb the therapeutic elements of the ritual, improving breathing and overall well-being.
Finally, to complete the ritual, enjoy a shot of refreshing saft -- alcohol-free Krækiber juice that includes a blend of Icelandic wild berries.
Notes:
Minimum age is 12 years. Bring your swimsuit. Towels are provided. The changing rooms are gender-divided but are European-style (not private). Lockers (locked with digital wristbands), showers, hair conditioner and soap are included. US dollars (bills only; no coins), euros or Icelandic kroner and major credit cards are accepted. Hygiene regulations require that you shower with soap and without a swimsuit before entering the lagoon. Shoes are not to be worn inside the locker room area; they are to be stored on shoe shelves or in plastic bags inside lockers. The water is hot; ensure you are hydrated. The minerals in the water make hair dry and coarse, but it returns to normal after a few showers. Do not wear jewelry in the water, as the minerals can stain metal. Although the lockers are safe, do not bring valuables to the lagoon. Floors may be slippery; take care when walking inside the locker area and out to the lagoon. Guests with a heart condition should seek their physician's advice before booking.
