Conducted in broad daylight, this evening tour from Reykjavík takes you across the Mosfellsheidi Heath to beautiful Thingvellir National Park -- a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a primary site of Iceland's geological and historical heritage.
Walk through a massive geological fault to the place where Europe's oldest national legislative assembly, the Icelandic Althing, was established in AD 930. Astonishingly, it convened here in grandiose surroundings every summer for nearly eight centuries.
Your tour continues over the Lyngdalsheidi Heath into the fertile farmlands of the south to visit perhaps Iceland's most beautiful waterfall -- Gullfoss.
Nearby is the truly fascinating Geysir geothermal area, with its many hot springs. The most active geyser spouts every few minutes and is riveting to watch.
A two-course dinner and coffee are served at a restaurant nearby.
Returning through the Grímsnes region, you will also pass Hveragerdi Village, where geothermal water has been used to build an extensive greenhouse industry.
Enjoy a panoramic drive to Reykjavík via Hellisheidi with a short stop at the Hellisheidi Power Plant.
Notes:
Wear sturdy non-skid walking shoes. Guests who prefer to stay on the coach may do so at most stops; however, all guests must leave the coach during the driver's break. Guests using a cane, walker, or manual collapsible wheelchair must be able to negotiate a few steps to (dis)embark the coach. Collapsible wheelchairs/scooters can be stored on the coach; full measurements of the wheelchair/scooter must be provided to the tour staff on board the ship at least 48 hours prior to arrival in Reykjavík. Most attractions are wheelchair/scooter accessible; please be mindful that accessible areas may offer a slightly different angle/point-of-view than other guests may encounter. The dinner venue is wheelchair accessible.
