This guided bike ride begins with a drive through the western part of town en route to the Skagen Museum of Local History. After snapping some photos, put on your helmet, hop on your bike, and pedal off to learn all about the Skagen area.
You’re headed towards the former Royal Summer Residence at Klitgaarden -- now a resort for authors, artists and scientists. It is perhaps best known for the Sand Church, which has been covered by sand dunes over the years so that only the spire can be seen nowadays.
Continue past the Town Hall and follow the beach road to view the old, timbered Vippefyret lighthouse.
At Grenen, the northernmost part of Skagens Odde, you’ll see the very spot where the North and Baltic Seas converge -- take off your shoes if you wish to stand with one foot in each sea.
With your shoes back on, you’ll leave your bike here and walk the 1.86 miles (round trip) to and from the tip of Grenen. Grenen is the very top of Denmark and of the European continent -- a gateway as well as a land’s end, and an amazing wonder of nature attracting more than two million visitors every year.
Ride back to town and along Skagen’s vibrant marina area, where you will see the picturesque fishermen’s cottages that dot the area, and continue past the Swedish Seamen’s Church en route back to the pier.
Notes:
Helmets are provided and must be worn. Participants must be physically fit and competent bike riders (not suitable for beginners). Minimum age is 12 years. Waiver must be signed and medical conditions disclosed. Tour requires strenuous walking (almost two miles) at Grenen. Wear comfortable walking shoes.
