A superb panoramic drive starts with a journey across the wonderful landscape to the northern Isle of Skye.
Your coach follows the road that weaves its way around Loch Snizort, eventually leading to the famous Dunvegan Castle. The castle was the stronghold of the Chiefs of MacLeod for nearly 800 years and is still their family home. Discover among the castle's treasures the 17th-century four-pint drinking horn, with which each male heir has to prove his manhood by successfully draining it of claret. The castle is also guardian of the 'fairy flag' of Dunvegan -- said to possess miraculous powers -- and of a lock of hair clipped from Bonnie Prince Charlie's head by Flora MacDonald as a keepsake. To this day, the hair is preserved in a locket.
Dunvegan Castle's gardens were originally laid out in the 18th century and offer paths through woodland glades, shimmering pools and burns (streams) fed by cascading waterfalls.
The tour returns to Portree via the scenic southern route.
