This walking tour unveils many of Oslo's famous sites, including the renowned City Hall and Akershus Fortress.
Cradled between forest-clad hills and with several islands spread across its eponymous fjord, Oslo is a vibrant city centered around its harbor and guarded by a castle. It is an eclectic mix of traditional timber houses, stately neo-Classical buildings, and the latest in modern architecture.
Oslo burned to the ground in AD 1624. It was rebuilt in the protective shadow of the Akershus Fortress (1299). Today's walk includes a stroll through the Akershus Fortress grounds and past many historical buildings of the Old Town. Cafés and art galleries line the streets, and you'll spot the iconic landmark City Hall, where the Nobel Peace Prize Awards are held every year.
See the Royal Palace or the Opera House before turning down the main street and returning to the ship.
Notes: Tour requires approximately three hours of walking. Terrain includes uneven surfaces, cobblestones, inclines, and many steps. Wear sturdy non-skid walking shoes. Bring bottled water. Tour operates rain or shine but may be canceled by the operator in the event of extremely bad weather or unsuitable conditions. The Town Hall may be closed at short notice; an outside visit will be substituted. When the ship is docked further from the downtown area, other landmarks and visits may be substituted.
