This fascinating half-day tour starts with a walk through the Cobh Harbour precinct, accompanied by your friendly local guide. Cobh, pronounced "cove," is one of Ireland's most important industrial areas. Today, you will walk the same streets and visit the very pier from where passengers boarded Titanic, and where thousands of Irish emigrants boarded ships for the New World.
View the former offices of the White Star Line and Cunard Line before stopping at St Colman's Cathedral. This ornately detailed neo-Gothic building sports spires visible from the bay. Built in 1868 and finally completed in 1915, it is made of granite and limestone and features elaborate statues and stained-glass window arches. It also boasts 42 bells that ring out on special occasions. Many families of departing emigrants climbed the cathedral steps for a last sight of their departing loved ones. The cathedral overlooks the final anchorage of the doomed Titanic. She took on mail and passengers here in Cobh in 1912.
Pause at a traditional pub to savor an Irish coffee — a magical combination of whiskey, double cream, strong black coffee and sugar. Delicious!
Complete your tour with a visit to the Titanic Experience Museum in the heart of Cobh. A docent will guide you through its exhibits.
