Depart from the ship at Newhaven and drive into the heart of Edinburgh city.
Princes Street, Edinburgh's main thoroughfare and shopping street, is a hubbub of activity in the New Town, which dates back about 250 years. Watch for the Sir Walter Scott Monument.
In the Old Town, almost a millennium old, catch a glimpse of St Giles Cathedral with its soaring crown spires and travel down the Royal Mile -- Edinburgh's medieval main street.
You will also see Holyrood Palace -- the official home of the King when he visits. Take advantage of an opportunity to stop and stretch your legs if you wish to get off the coach to take photos of the new Scottish Parliament building -- an unusual, modern building with a strong Gaudí-esque influence.
Enjoy a panoramic drive around Holyrood Park -- a green oasis of lakes and ponds. If time permits, you will also stop partway up King Arthur's Seat for views of the city and the Firth of Forth.
Notes:
The photo stop is optional; participants may remain on the coach. Wear comfortable walking shoes. If the Holyrood Park Drive is closed, the Arthur's Seat photo stop will be substituted.
