Molde is the administrative center of County Romsdal. It lies at the foot of the hills and faces a fjord that opens out onto a magnificent panorama of 87 snow-capped peaks. Molde is often called the Town of Roses -- not because these blooms are riotously plentiful here, but because they should not be growing in this climate at all. You will explore three highlights of Molde today.
The Romsdal Museum is one of the largest provincial museums in Norway. It is comprised of more than 40 buildings illustrating Norway's social and architectural development from the Viking era right up to the end of the 19th century. At the Molde Church, you will find a simple white interior decorated by some of Norway's leading artists.
Head to the Varden Viewpoint, some 1,200 feet above the town. It offers panoramic views of the fjord and the stunning Romsdal Mountains.
