This is a trip around the island of Vestvågøy, driving through rich farmland to the beautiful white sandy beaches on the west side of the island. These offer a dramatic contrast to the craggy, weather-beaten rocks and the mountains behind them.
The islands of Lofoten boast some of the most spectacular scenery in Norway, as well as some of the world's richest fishing waters. Vestvågøy is the second-largest island in Lofoten. A panoramic drive by coach will take you through the small village of Leknes, which is the administrative center of the island and home to approximately 3,000 inhabitants.
Continue to Borg, where you will visit the Viking Museum. Archaeologists have discovered a chieftain's farmstead at Borg, containing sensational finds. Objects discovered here link the Lofoten Islands to the Mediterranean as well as France, England and Germany.
Lofoten was a center of power during the Viking period, and the main house at Borg is the largest Viking building ever uncovered (272 feet long and 30 feet tall). An exact copy has been built next to the excavation ground and offers a glimpse of life in AD 900.
From the Torvdalshalsen Viewpoint, take in the beautiful view of Leknes.
Please note: Wear comfortable walking shoes. Dress warmly in layers with a windproof and waterproof outer layer; bring a warm hat, gloves and a scarf. Children under the age of 3 must be secured in a child's car seat on the transportation. These are not available through the tour operator; you must bring your own from home.
