Immerse yourself in Norway's natural beauty with a relaxing two-mile hike through Baneheia and Ravnedalen. This recreational area and nature park was developed by General Joseph Frantz Oscar Wergeland and planted by his troops during the late 19th century. Prior to that, the area had been left in disrepair after many years of use as a pasture and source of wood for residents.
The parks are full of winding paths, various types of trails, swimming and fishing spots, lookout points and a thriving ecosystem of flora and fauna. Begin your hike from Baneheia, where you will walk up to a vantage point overlooking Kristiansand and the sea. Pause to enjoy the views, as well as a snack of kvikk lunsj (chocolate bar), lefse (traditional Norwegian flatbread), fruit and juice.
Afterward, start your descent and then return to the ship.
Notes:
Wear sturdy non-skid walking shoes. Minimum age is 14 years. Dress warmly in layers with a windproof and waterproof outer layer; bring a warm hat, gloves and a scarf. Bring a backpack to stow any layers you shed.
