Gain an understanding of rural life in Lithuania by visiting a small farm that produces signature honey.
As you drive through typical Lithuanian villages, your guide will share tales of village life in the Soviet era of collective farming. Learn how times have changed since Lithuania regained its independence in 1990. Pass traditional farmsteads, where people still live off the land and use horse-drawn farm machinery.
Upon arrival at a family-run bee farm surrounded by gorgeous Lithuanian countryside, you'll be met by beekeeper sisters Alina and Giedre. They will guide you around their charming 18th-century farmstead. Learn how beekeeping has changed over the decades, observe bees working inside the colonies, glance inside the bee therapy house, and even learn to harvest honey yourself.
A tasting of local produce will provide you with an even deeper understanding of rural Lithuania. Enjoy a selection of honey mixed with unexpected ingredients such as thyme, sea buckthorn, or mint. Taste Alina's fresh-baked dark bread, traditional white cheese, and homemade honey liqueur.
Back in town, walk through Klaipeda's Old Town. In Theatre Square view the sculpture of Annchen from Tharau. Stroll among the narrow streets and visit the stalls selling amber jewelry.
