This tour combines the sights of the Old Town of Klaipeda along with the marvels of the Amber Museum in Palanga.
Leave the coach at Theatre Square, in the heart of Old Klaipeda. Note the monument to love -- a sculpture of Annchen from Tharau. Stroll along the narrow streets where craftsmen, shoemakers, blacksmiths, and bakers used to live and ply their trades. Look for a handmade souvenir and choose a piece of amber at the handicrafts market stalls -- these are often excellent value.
Then, reboard the coach and continue to the resort town of Palanga. Here, you will stroll through the Botanic Park, founded by Count Tiskevicius more than 100 years ago. The 19th-century neo-Renaissance-style mansion now houses the largest amber museum in the Baltics. You'll learn all about 'Baltic gold' -- its origins, the places where amber can be found, and unique inclusions containing insects, lizards and bits of extinct plants, remnants of the Stone Age.
Back outside, like everyone who comes to Palanga, you will be drawn to the central walking promenade leading to the Baltic Sea. There are cafés, bars and restaurants on both sides of the street, along with souvenir stalls. Visit the neo-Gothic church built in the 19th century, or simply enjoy this pedestrian precinct and its joyful atmosphere.
You will have time to purchase refreshments (at your own expense) in the center of Palanga or in Klaipeda's Old Town. Rejoin the coach and return to Klaipeda.
