Take a hike (a brisk walk) to the place where Greenland's human history began, a mere 4,000 years ago. Different Inuit cultures used the Sisimiut area as a hunting ground for many years. You'll learn how they lived as you walk past the remains of turf hut ruins and an ancient burial ground.
You will pass the harbor, the arts and crafts shop, the local kayak club and huge tanks containing oil and gasoline on the route. Your guide will interpret everyday life in Sisimiut -- it's surprisingly 21st-century.
From Tele Island, take in the beautiful view of Sisimiut with the 2575-foot (785-meter) Mt Nasaasaq in the background. The latter is Sisimiut's iconic landmark.
Notes:
Participants must be physically fit. The terrain can be slippery when wet. Wear sturdy non-skid walking shoes. Terrain includes rocks, unformed trails, uneven surfaces, grass, inclines, gravel and steps. It is essential that you wear warm, layered clothing to fully enjoy and participate in this excursion. Outer layer should be windproof and waterproof. Bring gloves, a warm hat, and a scarf.
