Set out from the pier on a guided walk through the town of Ilulissat. Once called the town of 10,000 souls, Ilulissat lies at 69°N latitude, within the Arctic Circle. Today, its population hovers around 5,000.
Watch for various sights -- a bust of polar explorer Knud Rasmussen and the house where he was born, Zion Church, the local kayak club, and various shops and the handicraft gallery.
Your guide will share local history and give you a good impression of life 250 miles (400 km) north of the Arctic Circle. You will also learn about the huge changes and cultural developments that have taken place during the last century.
Your tour ends at the Knud Rasmusen Museum, tickets are included. You must make your own way back to the ship (a ten-minute walk).
Notes:
Tour requires approximately two hours of walking. It is conducted entirely on foot. It is essential that you wear warm, layered clothing to fully enjoy and participate in this excursion. Outer layer should be windproof and waterproof. Bring gloves, a warm hat, and a scarf.
