Glen Ord Distillery — home of The Singleton — is the only remaining single-malt whisky distillery on the Black Isle peninsula. Don't miss the Scotch malt whisky experience here, as it explores the characteristics of Glen Ord's various profiles and reaches into the past with a walk through some age-old buildings. If the bricks could talk, they would whisper tales of tenant farmers supplying top-quality barley, waterwheels bringing the cold, clear water of Loch nam Bonnach and Loch nan Eun to the mash tuns, and scurrilous bootlegging — the ingredients both of great stories and of the foundation of a distillery in the early 1800s. Enjoy a tour of the facility today, followed by a dram of the Singleton of Glen Ord in the bar area. Browse in the shop for souvenirs and fine whiskies.
Mary, Queen of Scots, dubbed it "Beau Lieu" — meaning the beautiful place; today, the small Scottish town of Beauly is celebrated for its pretty flowers. Stroll about Beauly's lovely, spacious central square designed by Lord Lovat — peer of the realm, member of Clan Fraser, and antecedent of the legendary Jacobites who rode out for Bonnie Prince Charlie and fought to the death at Culloden.
