Take a panoramic drive to the town of Bolungarvík, passing through the tunnel beneath Mt Óshlíð. From there, head towards Mt Bolafjall and to a sightseeing platform. This newly opened attraction offers a spectacular panoramic view over the Hornstrandir Nature Reserve — part of the Glacier Fjords and Ísafjarðardjúp Fjord system. On an exceptionally clear day, the view to the northwest may include a smudge on the horizon, which is the coast of Greenland.
Head back down the mountain to Skálavík Creek. Uninhabited since the 1960s, it's a beautiful and forgotten corner of Iceland.
Enjoy light refreshments of tea/coffee and cake here alongside a beautiful creek, with peace and silence offering you their company.
Notes:
Weather and atmospheric conditions vary; no guarantee is offered with regard to visibility or views on any particular day. Alternative sights may be substituted when visibility is poor. Dress warmly in layers with a windproof and waterproof outer layer; bring a warm hat, gloves and a scarf.
