Cross Skjálfandi Bay by RIB (rigid inflatable) boat to reach Flatey Island -- a natural haven for birdlife with more than 30 different bird species during the breeding season. The island is just over a mile long and almost a mile wide and its name means “Flat Island.” Indeed, its highest point is about 60 feet above sea level. Flatey’s last inhabitants left in 1967, but some of the old homes here are kept as summerhouses.
As you immerse yourself in this remote island escape, savor delicious seafood soup and freshly baked bread. Every ingredient and utensil has made the journey by boat to reach this isolated paradise, underscoring the island’s seclusion and untouched beauty.
Here’s an unexpected twist -- you’ll be serenaded by a live music performance, adding an enchanting element to this hidden paradise.
Notes:
Ride will be bumpy; guests who are pregnant and those with a back or neck condition are not allowed to participate. Minimum age is 8 years. Dress warmly in layers with a windproof and waterproof outer layer; bring a warm hat, gloves and a scarf. Wear closed-toe shoes with a rubber or non-skid sole. Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed.
