A short scenic drive through Harstad and the historic Trondenes area brings you to Trondenes Fortress — home to the famous Adolf Gun. Surrounded by spectacular views across the fjords and islands, the fortress offers a fine combination of history, engineering, and Arctic scenery.
Tour the fortress area to see the Adolf Gun — one of the world's largest land-based Naval cannons from World War II. Your guide will share fascinating stories about the fortress, its strategic importance during the war, and the role it played in protecting Norway's northern coastline. View the impressive cannon up close, and learn about the extensive military installation that once guarded the surrounding waters.
Notes:
The Bunker Exhibition is self-guided. Tour requires approximately 1½ hours of walking and standing. There is no wheelchair access to the gun site. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations. Terrain includes uneven surfaces with 37 steps at the Adolf Gun. Children under the age of 3 must be secured in a child's car seat on the transportation. These are not available through the tour operator; you must bring your own from home. The Adolf Gun is an active military area; you must bring valid photo ID with you on tour; accepted forms of ID include passport, National ID card with photo, or European driver's license with photo.
