How better to explore Galway than from a waterside perspective? Board the Connemara Lady -- a luxury all-weather catamaran offering uninterrupted views of lovely Galway Bay -- and travel north to Killary Fjord. This is Ireland's only glacial fjord, and it's dramatically surrounded by mountains that rise steeply from the water's edge.
Relax with a Baileys coffee as you experience the majestic scenery and silvery seas. Frequent shifts in light and shadow create an ever-evolving contrast of color on the landscape. Learn how the fjord has become a center of aquaculture as mussels are farmed in the deep, clear waters. Enjoy spotting birds and wildlife, potentially including dolphins, seals and otters, along this spectacular stretch of the Wild Atlantic Way. Follow the fjord ten miles inland to the picturesque village of Leenane.
Leave the boat and continue with a scenic landside panoramic drive by motorcoach.
Lunch is served at a local establishment; then, reboard your coach and travel to the village of Cong. The Hollywood movie, Quiet Man, was filmed here, starring John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara. Enjoy some free time to explore the quaint village before returning to Galway.
Notes: Tour requires approximately 30 minutes of walking. Terrain includes even and uneven surfaces, cobblestones, inclines, and steps to board the boat. Indoor and outdoor seating are available on the catamaran. Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed.
