A picturesque drive brings you to Stykkisholmur, the largest town on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. Take in the magnificent views surrounding this thriving center of commerce and tourism which features well-preserved Icelandic houses and buildings.
Here, you will board a boat at the harbor and set out for Breidafjordur Bay, a large, shallow body of water whose dramatic racing tides capture the imagination. Absorb the natural splendor of Breidafjordur Bay as the boat's captain points out sights. Awesome seascapes fill every angle of this gorgeous nature preserve. Marvel at the towering cliffs brimming with noisy birds, the beautiful fjords, and the celebrated tidal currents. Learn about the area's extraordinarily rich birdlife, including white-tailed sea eagles, Arctic tern, cormorants, kittiwakes and bright-beaked puffins.
As the journey continues, keep an eye out for a vast array of marine and wildlife that thrives in this undisturbed terrain. Watch the sea and shoreline for porpoises, white-beaked dolphins, gray seals, and orca and minke whales.
During the cruise, a small fishing net is cast overboard to catch shellfish and possibly a sea urchin. When the net is pulled from the plentiful waters, marvel at the rich bounty and sample the shellfish -- seafood at its freshest.
Return to the pier for the drive back to Grundafjordur.
Notes:
