From Grundarfjordur, journey through several small fishing villages and along the dramatic coastline toward Snaefells Glacier. The glacier was made famous by French writer Jules Verne in his classic novel Journey to the Center of the Earth. However, it is just one of many interesting geological features, mountains and volcanoes that also grace the area.
Drive past Ólafsvík fishing village and turn off the road toward one of the hidden gems of Snæfellsnes Peninsula, the 30-foot-tall Svöðufoss waterfall, cascading off a basalt column cliff. Pause to capture photos before continuing past more charming fishing villages and around the western edge of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. The landscape is characterized by sandy beaches, rocky shorelines, and jagged mountains, crowned by the shimmering Snæfellsjökull glacier.
Your next stop is Malarrif -- an old farm and lighthouse with a new role beside a beautiful black sand beach. Take the opportunity to stroll along the sands and enjoy the fresh air and nature.
Complete your tour at the tiny fishing village of Arnarstapi. The idyllic location boasts many interesting lava formations and an abundance of birdlife.
