Meet your guide at St Peter Port harbor for a short minibus transfer that will bring you to the west coast and the Bay of Perelle.
Gear up with a bike and helmet, and listen to a safety briefing on using cycle paths and roads in Guernsey; then, set out on your adventure.
Follow your guide on a ride through the legendary Catioroc area -- rich in tales of witches and fairies -- and pass ancient burial chambers such as the Trepied Dolmen. Cycle through the protected areas of Shingle Banks, Lihou Island and the Colin Best Nature Reserve before reaching the magnificent L'Eree Bay. This fine sandy beach is normally only frequented by the locals. Stop to explore the numerous bunkers built by the German forces during their occupation in World War II.
Your route takes you along the quiet seafront at Rocquaine, where you'll have views out to the Hanois lighthouse -- Guernsey's sentinel. You'll know you've reached Rocquaine Bay when you see Fort Grey, affectionately referred to as the 'cup and saucer' by the locals. You may hear Guernésiais, the local language, spoken by the fishermen as they land their catches at the beautiful working harbor of Portelet.
You will have free time to purchase a refreshment here if you wish (at your own expense) before heading inland via the Ruettes Tranquilles -- tiny lanes where horses and bicycles have priority over motor traffic -- past meadows full of wildflowers and quaint cottages that dot the country lanes.
En route back to Perelle, you'll stop to view either the underground passage of Le Creux ès Faies or St Appolines Chapel with its medieval mural. In Perelle, hand in your bike and transfer back to the pier in St Peter Port.
Notes:
Cycling distance is approximately six miles. Prior cycling experience is required; not suitable for beginners. Participants must be physically active and be able to cope with the physical exertion of a two-hour/six-mile bike ride. Please realistically assess your physical fitness and ability prior to booking.
