Departing from Dunmore East, you will travel north to neighboring County Kilkenny and the beautiful Lyrath Estate. Set amid 170 acres of mature parkland and just a mile from beautiful Kilkenny City, the Lyrath Estate Hotel fuses stunning contemporary hotel design with the elegance of the original 17th-century house.
A light refreshment is served in this beautiful setting.
In Thomastown, you will pass the Cistercian Jerpoint Abbey -- one of the finest monastic ruins in Ireland, founded in 1158. In 1540, the abbey was suppressed and its lands given to the Ormonde family.
Continue through the beautiful Nore Valley, heading eastward to lovely Inistioge. This charming village has a tree-lined square and occupies a pretty part of the Nore Valley, where the river winds between wooded banks. Inistioge has been the location for numerous films, including Widow's Peak and Circle of Friends. Take advantage of some free time to photograph the picturesque village.
Turning south, you will travel through the County Wexford town of New Ross. Set on a steep hill overlooking the River Barrow, New Ross comes from Viking origins and, with a thousand-year maritime tradition, is still a leading inland port. The Kennedy family finds its roots here -- New Ross was the embarkation port for President John F. Kennedy's great-grandfather, Patrick, emigrating to Boston in 1849.
