Copenhagen is one of the most interesting cities in the Baltic region. A panoramic drive showcases some of its better-known landmarks -- City Hall Square, City Hall and the Glyptotek Art Museum. Watch for the colorful Nyhavn Canal area in Old Copenhagen.
Drive through the idyllic canal district of Christianshavn and stop on the other side of the harbor opposite Amalienborg Palace. Snap some photos of the four identical Rococo palaces surrounding the broad octagonal square.
Step inside to explore majestic Christiansborg Palace, which houses Denmark’s Parliament. It is the Prime Minister’s residence, and the King of Denmark receives visiting royalty and heads of state in its royal reception rooms. In the Marble Hall, see the incredible, colorful tapestries displaying Danish and world history over the past 1,000 years.
You will have some free to wander about in the city center on your own.
Board a modern and comfortable canal boat to view many of Copenhagen’s highlights from the water. You’ll cover the canals and the inner harbor on a 50-minute cruise. The Christianshavn and Frederiksholm canals feature picturesque old buildings and National Landmarks. You’ll also catch a glimpse of Nyhavn Canal with its 500-year-old step-gabled houses. View the old naval base of Holmen. Your guide will point out the relatively new Royal Library, known as the Black Diamond, and the Copenhagen Opera House.
Notes:
This tour is available only to guests whose cruise does not begin or end in Copenhagen. Some traffic congestion may occur on larger roads outside Copenhagen. The canal boat may not be exclusive to Holland America Line guests.
