Copenhagen, capital of Denmark, is one of the most charming and fascinating cities in Northern Europe. It has come a long way since it began life as a fishing village in the 10th century.
Relax aboard a comfortable motorcoach for a panoramic drive past many of the city's most interesting historical and cultural landmarks. Watch for City Hall Square, City Hall and the Glyptotek Art Museum.
You will pass Rosenborg Castle -- a fairytale Dutch Renaissance structure built in 1606 and now a museum holding the Danish Crown Jewels.
In Old Copenhagen, you'll view the old Stock Exchange and Nyhavn's picturesque and brightly-colored waterfront canal district -- once the home of Hans Christian Andersen. Stop for a photo of Amalienborg Palace -- winter residence of the Danish Royal Family -- made up of four identical Rococo palaces around a spacious octagonal courtyard.
And don't miss the iconic Little Mermaid statue -- a tribute to Hans Christian Anderson.
Step inside the magnificent Christiansborg Palace, seat of the Danish Parliament and the King's Royal Reception Rooms. The Great Hall offers a magnificent setting for state dinners hosted by the King. Check out the tapestries telling more than a thousand years of Danish and international history. No visit to Christiansborg is complete without visiting the Throne Room.
A modern canal boat takes you on a 50-minute cruise through Copenhagen's canals and inner harbor. You will travel along Christianshavn and Frederiksholm Canals -- perfect for viewing many of the city's historical buildings and landmarks. Nyhavn Canal is lined with 500-year-old step-gabled homes. Your guide will point out the old naval base of Holmen, the Copenhagen Opera House, and the new Royal Library, known as the Black Diamond because of its polished black granite exterior.
Round out your day with a visit to the world-famous Tivoli Gardens in the heart of the city -- a vital part of Copenhagen's cultural scene. Here, you will have free time to explore at your leisure. The gardens contain one of the world's oldest amusement parks, which opened in 1843 and boasts the oldest still-operating Ferris wheel and a wooden roller coaster.
Transfer to the airport in time for your flight.
